Like everyone who knew Reg, I was shocked and saddened to hear of his sudden death. I got to know Reg by way of volunteering and then working in the Constituency Office in 2001. I had never met anyone in such an esteemed position take such an interest in me and make me feel so at home, but at the same time imbued the importance and relevance of government and the people it represents. |

The electoral loss to Rod B. was a disappointment, but the loss of Reg himself was a heavy blow loaded with perspective. While we were not close personal friends, our sons played minor basketball together, and I enjoyed coaching Matthew for a time. Thanks Reg, for your service to Manitoba and all Canadians, and we extend our deepest sympathy. W. Borland & Family |

My sympathy at the passing of Reg Alcock. I regret I could not attend the funeral but am left with many fond memories of the years we served together in the House of Commons during both the Chretien and Martin administrations. I particularly remember his kindness and good humour. I preceded him in the Cabinet and enjoyed his support during those times. Reg well served our country. |

It’s really hard to find the words to express what the big guy meant to me and how blessed I am to have known him. Reg was a great mentor and an even better friend. He was truly one of a kind and I really miss him. I first met Reg when he hired me at the Asper School of Business during his tenure as Associate Dean. Although I only worked with Reg for a little over a year, it’s impossible not to be drawn into Reg’s many projects and passions. His energy and curiosity were endless and I can honestly say it was tough keeping up with him even though I was 30 years his junior. Of all the memories I have of Reg, the simple, every day moments are the ones I’ll remember most. I’ll always remember “cruising” around the track at the Reh-Fit Centre with Reg and the 6:00am gang…Reg often threatened to get team jerseys made with matching speed demon racing helmets complete with a big swoosh at the back. I’ll always remember lunch at Tony Roma’s…ribs, two sides of broccoli and a double helping of big ideas. I’ll always remember Reg Alcock. Three years is far too short a time to know a great man like Reg, but I am grateful for every moment. Thank you Karen, Sarah, Matty and Christina for sharing him with us. |

Though I first met Reg in the 90s, I didn’t really have the opportunity to get to know him until he very kindly agreed to partipate in my Leadership Winnipeg sessions by having a dialogue with the class on political leadership as a form of community leadership. Reg was in his element fielding questions and bouncing ideas on governance off the group, not minding at all if the conversation took several turns along the way from topic to topic….often he was the one with a new thought! His willingness to share so openly with 25 people who we felt were destined to play a role in community leadership in Winnipeg reflected his honest interest in the next generation of community leaders and he was an inspiration to the group. We were fortunate to have him with us the past two years and I personally will never forget him. He was a remarkable man who has left a huge legacy. |

As Foster Parents and executives in the late 1980s,we were priveleged to work with Reg in improving fostering in Winnipeg and Manitoba. We felt close to Reg,we even hosted a birthday party in our home for Reg with a few Foster MOMs who baked him a cake knowing he was trying to lose weight. Reg blew out the candle, but never took a bite. He came, that was his way.He was part of us when he could.Always remembered. |

Thinking of you all today. What an unbelievable service for Reg. I keep thinking of all the wonderful things people said about him, most saying how tender and kind he was to everyone he met.I felt so proud of all his accomplishments. He did more for his fellow man,and his country,in 63 years, than most of us could do in 3 lifetimes! |
