Thanks Reg for the work you did for the Liberal Pary and Manitoba. I recalled the excitement in 1998 when we help many Liberals elected including yourself in Osborne. That was truly fun. My condolensces to your family for a great loss. |

I am also a resident of Lindenwoods and when I read both the obituary and Gord Sinclair’s piece in the paper today I felt compelled to share my recent and brief encounter with your Reg not because it changed my life profoundly but because so that you could read again about another moment where he was the man you so eloquently stated he was. About a month ago while running to Lindenwoods Safeway before work to get a coffee – I spotted a great deal on juice boxes and as a mother of 3 it was a deal I couldn’t pass up. So with 2 bags loaded down with a bunch of juice boxes I proceeded to stand in line at Starbucks. Having to rush back to work and the line up growing I wasn’t sure how I was going to manage my bags and coffee but knew I needed both! Reg anticipating my dilema offered “go to your car drop off your bags and I’ll hold your spot”. He is quite distinguishable given his stature but he was early in the am wearing sweat pants so I wasn’t quite sure it was him. I agreed, dashed to the car, thanked him and came back in my spot in front of him. He got his beverage and left promptly. As I lingered to put cream in my coffee another patron who had witnessed the above, said to me “Can you believe that is Reg Alcock -he’s just such a great guy I said I thought it was.” I felt a bit sheepish that I had worried about my spot in line, resumed my spot in front of him and given his high level positions and his centre of influence – he had noticed my need for help that day as miniscule as others would perceive it to be. But that day he was a friendly neighbor, intuitive that as a mom I needed the coffee and quickly came up with the solution. He left a lasting impression of the genuine person he is/was. I will remember that act and be sure to “pass it on” as they say. I am so sorry for your grief and loss. I know you will hear many more grandeur contributions your dad/husband made, and I hope little stories like mine will bring a smile to your face knowing how fondly he was thought of. |

I look back fondly at that part of our youth that Reg and I spent together in and around politics. I first met Reg in 1977 when Charlie Huband ran as a candidate for the leg. in Cescentwood . I was the riding campaign chair and Reg and Colin Jackson were the sign crew. He went somewhere from there; I stayed in the backrooms. I have always admired Reg. He had heart to go with a sharp intellect and that, along with the good sense to marry Karen made him a winner all around. I will miss him -We all will. Rick Rosenberg Montreal |

We were shocked to learn of Reg’s passing – so young! We have fond memories of growing up with the Alcock family in St. Vital. Our fathers were part of the small group from St. Vital to build cottages at Moose Lake. Memories were made with the Alcocks, Sawyers, Haywards, Threlfalls, Stivers and Pinnells. Our thoughts are with his wife, children and sisters Joan and Beverley. Pat Watts Stevens, Rick Watts & Ilene Watts |

Reg, I struggle being able to put into words the depth of the sadness your far too soon passing leaves. Our thoughts and prayers are with Karen, Christina, Matthew & Christina at this time. You led a life of honour and commitment leaving a beautiful legacy for your children. I consider myself so fortunate to have spent the time we did together at the lake. Some of my favorite memories include the “infamous” Christina/Austin Powers moment which makes me laugh out loud to this day and your tremendous zeal for an off colour song at Joanie’s 50th birthday. I find myself constantly replaying these scenes in my head over the past week. As we gathered together this summer to watch the Layton funeral I can say I will make you this one promise…I assure you I will not wear ugly shoes to the celebration of your life…for there is simply no excuse. All our love, Lindsay, Sam, Joan & Eric |

Although Reg and I both pursued careers in the provincial and federal government, our paths did not cross until much later when we both landed at the University of Manitoba. I agreed to teach a course that Reg had previously taught in public sector management and sought his advice in developing the course. He was very generous with his time and talent. Reg was a brilliant and innovative thinker and so IT savvy that his presentations were three-dimensional. He was a giant of a man in every way and a force of great good for our country and community. My sincere condolences to his family and close friends. Donna J. Miller, Q.C. |

Judy and I were deeply saddened to learn of Reg’s passing and extend our sincere condolences to the family. We have fond memories of times at Moose Lake where we spent time together. Reg and I did many projects around there like, cutting wood, hauling earth or peat moss or small construction projects like the play house for the kids. Reg would often say “can I get your advice on something I’m looking at”?. Or he’d say “can I run something by you? I need your opinion”. I admired that in him. Reg will be deeply missed by all who knew him. |

Karen,Sarah, Matthew and Christina, How does one find the words to describe a man who epitomized compassion, vision and genius? I had the privilege to work alongside Reg for many years. Each day was an opportunity to push beyond the day before and accomplish feats that seemed impossible just hours before. He demanded no more of others than he did of himself. He mentored, he listened and he inspired. There are so many stories that are too numerous to tell….I will always remember with respect and admiration the summer of 2004, just weeks before Reg was appointed President of the Treasury Board, when my family was invited to spend a weekend with Reg, Karen, Sarah, Matthew and Christina at their cottage. For me, Reg, the compassionate and caring human being came before all his other accomplishments…..and maybe that is the reason he accomplished so much. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. |
