Karen and family, While I met you, Karen, many years ago, before you were married to Reg, I am nonetheless, saddened by the passing of Reg. From all accounts, familial and political, Reg was a loved and well respected Canadian, who as the “Welcome” page indicates dedicated his life to the service of others. That dedication to service without doubt, included his own family. To be sure, he will be missed, but your memories of his humour, his love and tenderness, and his tenacity will always be with you. Draw strength and happiness that you were able to share your lives together. Connie & I will pray for him and for you and your family during the difficult and trying days/weeks ahead. May God bless you and your family. Connie & Joe Brazas |

My fondest memory of Reg was when late in the 1991 provincial election (I was the candidate running against Garry Doer) it was only Reg and myself telling Sharon Carstairs not to run the attack adds against Gary Filmon… We were right, those adds simply didn’t “fit” with our “Competence with Heart” campaign and it cost us numerous seats and maybe even a chance at forming government… Reg was always a thinker and I really always valued his stands and opinions on things for the public good… Reg will be greatly missed by many of us and I extend my deepest condolences to everyone in his family who will miss him the most… |

A great colleague and a fine instructor. Despite a full load of professional obligations, Reg willingly took on some courses in Political Studies at a time when we were in need. He did so with enthusiasm. He had an innovative teaching style that appealed to his students, and he made a positive and effective contribution to our department. I’ll miss his stories, the way he told it like it is (!), and his laugh. |

Very saddened by the sudden passing of Mr. Alcock. He was very diligent and responsible in representing his riding. I will sincerely miss greeting him at the elevator at school. May his life, sacrifices and dedication serve others to emulate his integrity. Please accept my sincere condolences. Yours, Jairo Viafara |

As a student, I mourn the loss of Mr. Alcock for all future students that will not hear his words of wisdom and knowledge. He was on my panel to complete my Master of Public Administration and I am so thankful for his participation. As a friend, I mourn the loss of Reg as a person that helped advise me and encourage me. He always pushed me to consider the possibilites in my profession. His insights were invaluable. And as someone looking in, I extend my deepest sympathy to his family. His legacy is far-reaching and I thank Reg Alcock’s family for the sacrifice that they must have given in order for him to serve Winnipeg and Canada. |

My heart goes out to you Karen and to your children, Sarah, Matthew, and Christina. So many memories I have,of that brilliant, charming, caring man, called Reg. I first met Reg in 1977 when he served as Executive Director of the Manitoba Liberal Party. I watched with pride as he continued to succeed over several decades, with you Karen, by his side. He was always there to mentor, to listen, to give encouragement. I am blessed to have known him as my friend. God Bless all of you during this great loss. |

Reg Alcock was a man that was driven by passion and vision. Indeed he was truly a leader and his accomplishments were too many to count. He truly made our world a better place. A genius by right his dedication to public service was beyond the status quo. He laboured tirelessly to create government services more accessible and open to all Canadians, (e-government). Ahead of his time he saw how technology could benefit the administration of our government. He pioneered digitalizing information and digitizing government services. A champion and Advocate by virtue, Reg was a man with a big heart. His compassion for the vulnerable of society inspired him to make sure The Canadian Human Rights Museum was to be reality not just a dream. His dedication and perseverance made what we will soon see erected in our wonderful city of Winnipeg. My last conversation with him was to request his support in the public endorsement for Barrier Free Manitoba, a much needed legislation to make Manitoba accessible to all Manitobans. Reg immediately, with out any hesitation jumped on the opportunity to publically endorse what he also believed to be a well deserved cause. We who represent the disabled community are forever grateful for his support in our endeavours to help make our world a better place for all inclusively. That was Reg’s dream and passion. Bill 47 became law on June16, 2011. Reg’s influence in my personal life and the advice he gave me I will forever treasure. He mentored those he cared for, helped and encouraged us by breathing life into our future. It was these virtues that inspired me to help serve all his constituents one case at a time. He taught me the value of serving and helping people to exercise their rights, as everyone had value and meaning. I was truly blessed to have had the opportunity to have worked closely with Reg all those years. I will miss you tremendously and the world has lost a tremendous champion. Thank you for making our world a better place. May you rest in peace eternally in the arms of our Lord. Susana Scott |

My journey with Reg started in 1993, at only 13 years old. My father took me to Reg’s campaign office to go door knocking with him. When introduced to Reg, he bent down on one knee, shook my hand and said, “I am excited to have you on my team”. What I didn’t realize was that the hand shake and those uncomplicated 9 words would turn into a 13 year commitment. From that point on I became and remain a proud member of “Team Alcock” . I had the honor and privilege to work with Reg from the age of 18 to 26. I worked for him in the constituency office, on the Paul Martin Campaign and later as his Western Desk when he was President of the Treasury Board. He played a major part in shaping who I am today, professionally and personally. At a young age he believed in me. Through example he taught me and all those close to him that temporary fixes are never a solution. He inspired us to be better, challenged us to do better and above all taught us the importance of compassion and loyalty. Reg, as I have told you on more than on one occasion, I love you like a second father. Why else would I laugh when you told me, “ be careful, you have gained that Ottawa 20”, referring to my weight. Oh Reg! Your passing has created a void that will never be filled, however I will forever cherish our time together and continue to “drive” the many life lessons you have taught me. Having you in my life was a gift that I will forever be grateful for. Karen, Sarah, Matthew and Christina – I am so sorry for your loss and pain. My deepest sympathies, thoughts and love are with each one of you. |

Prof. Alcock was a great person, and a great teacher. He had the gift of making students want to learn, and his passion for his teaching was evident. He will sorely be missed at Asper, and by all Canadians. Sincere condolences to his family and friends. |

To Karen and the kids “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal” is an Irish proverb that reminds me that Reg will be with you forever. His most important legacy is the love his family has for him and what you all have yet to do in life. I hope God will keep you close at this very difficult time and know that your friends and family are with you every step of the way. |
