My deepest sympathies to Reg’s family and friends. Reg was a gracious man who was always there for people who needed to be heard. Reg was a great teacher and mentor for all of us who were lucky enough to have known him. I will always remember bumping into Reg in the hallways during my time in the Asper MBA program, he always took the time to get to know each student. When I told him I was Franco-Manitoban, he quickly started to speak French with me as a sign of respect to my heritage, which summed up Reg’s character, a man that respected others. He taught me to speak up not only for myself but for others and that it was a duty not a right to serve in public office. Whether it be in Manitoba or in Ottawa, Reg fought hard for issues that mattered to us all. He will be greatly missed. |

Reg was a fantastic person to Deaf Community since he used to work at the Manitoba School for the Deaf in the past. He knew our language rights well. He was good advisor to us in many ways. We sorely miss him!Our hearts go out to you in your time of sorrow. . |

Reg was one of the most gifted people that I have ever met. I never tired of our hours long discussions on the role of good governance in improving the lives of Manitobans. I was awed by his intelligence and political savvy, which were still dwarfed by his genuine interest in supporting others’ growth and potential. For the past 2 years, I had the privilege of working with Reg on a few projects that he admitted had fully engaged him from an intellectual and philosophical perspective. We would routinely meet at Tony Roma’s to debrief, strategize and discuss next steps. I hated ribs but would always indulge Reg because I knew he enjoyed them, and I enjoyed his company. I still hate ribs but will forever think fondly of that restaurant for those memories alone. Canadians, even Manitobans, may never fully appreciate all of the significant contributions Reg made to improving our lives. Regardless, he did, and his efforts, philosophies and accomplishments will continue to improve our lives well into the future. And while that may bring a small sense of relief on his passing, for those who knew him well, for his family, there is still so much loss. My condolences. |

Reg was one of the few older boys in the neighbourhood who didn’t bully the younger kids. He must have known that he was headed for a life of service. |

Both my daughter and I were in Reg’s first class when he began teaching at Asper School in 2007. He was passionate in his teaching and treated students with great respect. Every time I would meet him in the hallways, he would always ask me how my daughter and I were doing. He cared about making positive connections with people; he was a classy and gentle man. I will think of him when I graduate on Wednesday this week. Daniel Beaudette, BA, MAPs., MBA |

“Prof’s can be this personable and entertaining? Wow, jealous of the students who have him full time!” My exact thoughts when I enjoyed a brief conversation with Mr. Alcock early in my university years. No doubt he will be missed by many. |

Reg was a great Canadian. His contributions politically and academically are his legacy. Reg made Government and Politics in the MBA program a wonderful experience and reassured us that we would be successful. |

Reg was one of the kindest people I ever had the privilege of meeting. As an Asper student, I would visit Reg in his office and listen to his many stories, from memories at Parliament Hill to scuba diving! I am eternally grateful for all of Reg’s help when I Co-chaired the 2009 U of M Shinerama Campaign for Cystic Fibrosis research. After trying to contact City Hall to ask for the Mayor’s involvement with no success, Reg simply picked up his phone and called Sam Katz directly and the deal was done! The man knew anyone and everyone – something I always admired. A leader, motivator, and an inspiration. I will never forget Reg’s kindness and the many life lessons he taught me. Rest in Peace Dear Friend. |

Firstly let me extend my deepest condolences to Reg’s family. I was shocked and sadden to learn of his sudden passing Friday morning. As the President of the Churchill Liberal Riding, I was always grateful for the support, concern and compassion that Reg displayed for northern Manitoba. He was always there for advice and would often ask my opinion on decisions for the north, to get a feel for how things would be received and if there was an impact on government decisions on the ground up here. On a personal note; when we lost our leader Grand Chief Francis Flett, Reg called with his sympathies and asked if there was anything he could do and he took the time out of his personal schedule to be with us at that time. I witnessed the two of them working hard together to make an impact on northern Manitoba and saw a deep friendship and a tremendous respect between two people who gave their lives to helping others. There is so much to be thankful for by having Reg in my life and so little time to say it in this space. But let me close by saying my life is a better place because you were a part of it Reg and I hope I can take your teachings, your passion and your conviction to carry on that message. Masi-cho and Rest in Peace my friend. |

Reg will be remember in many ways. The thing that we will miss most was his sense of humour. He was a very funny man and was always slipping in comments that would have us in stitches. We will miss him greatly. |
