I had the privilege of getting to know Reg during my time on the student association while I was attending the Asper School of Business. Reg was one of the few people who really understood and appreciated what the students were all about. He was genuinely interested in all of our activities; always willing to lend a helping hand, make a phone call on our behalf, or just be a listening ear. Reg truly was a visionary for the Asper School. When I graduated, I approached Reg for advice on further education which he was happy to give. I am truly grateful that he took a personal interest in me. I admired Reg a lot. I will miss his infectious enthusiasm and his genuine interest in people. The world needs more people like Reg. My sincere condolences to his family. |

Mary and I were very saddened to hear of Reg’s passing. He was very helpful to us personally in the 1980′s as two young, anxious Albertans knowing that Reg. could answer our questions about Manitoba and its adoption system. He was a committed Canadian and honourable caring man and we can only express our sincere sympathy and God’s peace upon you. |

I had the pleasure of working alongside Reg in Ottawa for 6.5 years as the Member of Parliament for Saint-Boniface. I believe that his legacy is the impressive results he obtained for Manitoba in the short period of time he was Senior Minister for the province as well as the relationship of strong collaboration he had established with his provincial counterparts in order to get things done. He sure was an interesting guy! My wife Marguerite and I are saddened by his passing and we offer our sincerest condolences to Karen and the family. Our thoughts are with you. |

It is with great sadness and sorrow that I received the news of Reg’s sudden death. Reg has been a man of great deeds. I and my family have fond memory of Reg that he helped us to bring our mothers here to Winnipeg to visit thier grand children. He was truely a man of the people. Berhanu |

The first and only time I met Reg was at a Michael Ignatieff rally at the Unitversity of Manitoba campus. Very nice to talk to him on many different issues. When he was in parliment which I always saw on CPAC he was the best MP in that chamber always on his toes and never shy away from answering the tough questions and always giving the tough questions to opposite Progressive Conservitive Members at the Manitoba Legislative Assembly. He will be missed deeply. Gregory F. Liverpool |

I live in Point Douglas Constituency, David and I were on the Liberal Party executive. Several years ago we were looking for a guest speaker for a breakfast fund raiser. My husband David suggested we invite Reg and we were honored that he could come and he inspired us all. My late husband David was a dedicated Liberal, he worked for Sharon Carstairs in the ’80′s. David passed away very suddenly in August. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you deal with the shock of losing Reg. |

The last 4 or 5 times Reg and I had spoken when I had asked him casually how he was doing, he’d said he was “having the time of his life”. He was really enjoying writing his volumes on corporate governance and was planning to turn the tomes into a mass-worthy book. He was loving his role in executive education through Asper. He was so excited about the academic work he was subsumed by and the contribution he had to make in no large part based on his experience with provincial and national politics. Reg talked of being consumed by this work during his time at Moose Lake this summer, and spoke of his time with Karen, Matt, |

Words cannot begin to describe the profound impact that Reg had on both my personal and professional life. I first met Reg during the spring of 2000 when he took a chance to hire me right out of university. I had no experience in politics and no involvement with the Liberal Party. These shortcomings didn’t appear to concern him as we shared an interest and appreciation in all things technology-related. Shortly after starting with Reg, I was offered an opportunity to move to Ottawa to work in his Parliament Hill office. I jumped at the chance and it was there that we really got to know each other and where our working relationship evolved into a great friendship. While there are literally hundreds of tales I could share, one of my most memorable stories about Reg’s character, the value he placed on debate and how he empowered young people was during one of our first meetings after I began working in Ottawa. He had just finished working on a discussion paper that he was particularly proud of. Before circulating it more broadly he wanted some feedback and asked me to review it. As I was reading it, I thought to myself, I am 24 years old what value could I possibly add that a Harvard educated and seasoned Politian hasn’t already thought of. After I finished reading it, he asked for my comments. To which I replied “it’s good”. Unimpressed with the answer he immediately asked me to sit down and then proceeded to tell me that he wanted me to argue and challenge him at every opportunity. That was the confidence boost I needed and from that day forward I have never been shy to share my opinions with anyone. While this is my own personal story, over the years I saw this play out with different people in different situations. In his own way, he got the best out of people, and people responded in part because that’s what he demanded of himself. Despite all the great experiences we shared while in Ottawa, he may have saved the best for last. When I returned to work for Reg in Winnipeg I met a new staffer who ended up becoming my partner and more recently the mother to our wonderful daughter. I have no doubt that we would have never met if it wasn’t for him. Reg we will miss your laugh, your wisdom and your friendship. Rest in peace my friend. Karen, Sarah, Matthew and Christina – our thoughts and prayers are with you. He was far too young with so much more to give but he will be alive forever in our memories. |

Reg and I had great times while MLA’s – what a laugh he was a time, but also a very serious man who cared, really cared. I remember him making in the House, making his mic “disappear” when he got bored. My children also remember his magic – and maybe that’s it. I, too, shall remember his magic. Thank you for sharing him with the world. |
